Steve’s Field Note
November 12, 2008
It’s only November and already it feels like this school year is nearly over. My sons are looking forward to Thanksgiving break, then a short few weeks until Christmas and winter break. After that, since my older son is a senior, it will only be days until graduation, and then he’ll start college!
I went with my son to a college preview event and had the chance to hear about all the things I ignored on my own rush to complete my degrees back in the last millennium. They say youth is wasted on the young. I think we have to add college to that list. Read about the intersection of coaching and university life I envisioned in this week’s TRAVEL LOG.
This edition of ANYTHING BUT MARKETING! has probably the simplest idea to help you get comfortable talking to people about your new business in a casual and credible way. Let me know if you agree.
Enjoy the scenery On The Twisting Road!

TWISTING ROAD TRAVEL LOG
“Back to School?”
On Saturday I accompanied my older son to a preview event at the nearby University of North Texas. It’s one of the options he’s considering so he wanted to learn about the programs they offer. He filtered all the information through the high school senior’s lens, the one that wonders if there’s an easier degree or a more enjoyable campus. He was interested but not impressed. I heard everything as a person who loves personal development and creative career opportunities so I was excited.

ANYTHING BUT MARKETING!
“Be An Ambassador For Other People’s Businesses”
Reciprocity is a nice idea, but the power of this habit is not in reciprocity. It doesn’t work because everyone whose business you promote is also promoting your business. It works because you learn to see the world through a prospect’s eyes.
