Steve’s Field Note
November 19, 2008
I had to wear a jacket and tie today.
To me that’s a pretty big thing! Coaching and coaching training classes are virtual and writing is the greatest “work from anywhere” thing you can do, so I don’t have to worry about jackets and ties usually.
I went to an annual luncheon for a local organization. I’ve been a committee member for nearly two years so they invited me to join the board. Yikes! The good part of that is that the organization provides parent training and therapy for children, so I stay connected to one of my past careers without having to live in it. My heart still calls me to promote healthy child development, so I’m glad to have this way to express it.
Listening to that heart call is showing me other things that interest me. I’m learning that it’s wonderful to pursue interests, but to pursue something as a career I need passion and natural talent. “Hey! I could do that!” and “This might be fun” aren’t strong enough to build a career. I write more about this in the TRAVEL LOG.
Speaking of learning, that’s the focus of the latest BURGER BITE. Coaching – which meets enough of my passion and natural talent test for me to keep at it – relies on building awareness to facilitate forward action. Wow! I could have written that article in one sentence!
Enjoy the scenery On The Twisting Road!

TWISTING ROAD TRAVEL LOG
“The Discordant Key”
There is a key to making a living by pursuing your passion. It’s a secret that has amazing and wondrous power. But it kind of sucks.

BURGER BITES
“Burger Bites: Learning Focuses Action”
The Burger Bites Series Is Designed To Bring You A Taste Of Coaching.
Coaching is unique in part because it focuses so consistently on action. Without goals, steps towards the goals, and clients requesting accountability for taking those steps, coaching isn’t really happening. But clients come to coaching knowing at least some of their goals, can usually figure out a good next step to take, and understand deadlines. Why isn’t that enough?
