Steve’s Field Note

March 10, 2009

This weekend our family went to the Irish Festival in Dallas. Our main reason for going was to watch our older son’s girlfriend performing with her Irish Dance school. I was worn out just swaying to the music, but she said she wasn’t really that tired. Oh, the energy of youth!

Or is it the energy of doing something she loves? That was the theme at the festival. Dozens of booths were set up selling clothing, jewelry, swords and other weapons (our younger son’s favorite attractions), and food. Several stages were set up for storytellers, musicians, and singers. It was clear to see which people were there following their passion and which ones were there trying to earn some money on the weekend.

The armament expert couldn’t help himself. When my younger son commented about one replica sword with a little bit of information, he had to tell us the whole picture. And boy did he mean it. He sells period weapons because he loves them. The kilt stall where my wife asked a question was another example. They didn’t just explain one thing. They threw in a little history to make sure it stuck.

All the musicians seemed to be sharing their passion. From the soft spirit of violins, harps, and guitars on one stage to the rocking energy of men in kilts leaping while playing bagpipes and drums, it was obvious the performers were throwing themselves into the music.

The members of the Civil War reenactment groups were eager to explain their uniforms and equipment. The dog rescue people were happy to tell you all about their favorite breed and how they came across the dog they brought with them. The people leaving the whiskey tasting room seemed passionate, too, but it was hard to tell for sure.

Find the opportunity to be around people who are expressing love for what they do. Their passion is enthusiastic. It just might stir up your passion enough for you to hear it calling to you.

Enjoy the scenery On The Twisting Road!

When Is It Time To Give Up?

I get to talk to a lot of people who are just starting a small business on the side, some who are self-employed in one field and trying to transition to another, and some who have a small business and are trying to grow it. When they’re running low on clients and the marketing they’re trying doesn’t work, many will wonder if it’s time to let go of the dream and find a job. When is it time to give up?

FEATURED RESOURCES

We are all at different points on the path to find our calling, designing a lifestyle career, and making it real. Here are some resources that might speak to you wherever you are now and help you move forward.

SPECIAL DISCOUNT THROUGH WEDNESDAY!
Ali Brown’s “Online Success Blueprint Workshop” Is Updated, Now Includes DVDs, and Is Discounted Through Wednesday Night!

Last Thursday night Ali Brown showed us how lots of small business owners have a “shot in the dark” approach to marketing. They try this technique or that and consider it a failure if it doesn’t generate quick sales. The key? Developing a strategy, a comprehensive marketing system.

Sound hard? It does seem so at first, and it definitely takes time. But Ali’s specialty has been helping solo entrepreneurs learn the important steps of marketing and turning them into a system that can be AUTOMATED.

Ali gave away great ideas on creating information products and developing a marketing system. You can hear the recording by clicking here.

Ali also debuted the newest version of her signature product, the “Online Success Blueprint Workshop.” Participants paid more than $3,000 to attend the live event. Ali had it all videotaped and now offers the workshop as a complete package.

For the first time ever, she has included DVDs of the presentations, plus audios, plus the workbooks and transcripts. Even though she added more content, she kept the price low and is offering a $500 discount through Wednesday night.
