Steve’s Field Note
March 3, 2009
What a relief it is when you go see a doctor, a specialist even, and while you’re explaining the reason for your visit he waves you off and says, “Ah, no problem.”
Over the weekend my younger son pointed at my eye and made one of those grossed-out noises. I figured it was a little ruptured blood vessel. I looked in the mirror and saw that the outside of my eye was completely red. By the next day over half my eye was red, and by last night nearly two-thirds.
I’ve had a small, ruptured blood vessel that looked like a little continent of red on the white sea of my eye before. It slowly spread out in a feathery way and disappeared. But this looks more like Moses putting a plague on the Nile in The Ten Commandments. It’s taking over!
Dr. Frazee told me on a scale of one to ten it’s only about a four. Then I mentioned I needed to have an exam anyway because I see those floater thingies when it’s evening and I’m reading the computer screen. He played a video showing me most of them are no problem, and then he examined my eyeballs. Thank goodness everything was fine. My eye looks awful but it’s a typical event.
Turns out it probably happened when I was loading and unloading the lawn mower to take it in for service last week. He suggested I pay someone to help me with that in the future. He has a wry sense of humor, a pretty likeable guy.
He did give me a prescription for reading glasses in case I decide to use them. He warns it’s just a matter of time! And since he had dilated my pupils he gave me some really dark temporary sunglasses that unroll and grab on to the side of my head. Very stylish!
Thinking about my vision (wait for it, wait for it…) helped me get clear about one small next step. Ali Brown, The “E-Zine Queen,” recommends always having a resource to offer in your newsletter. I decided to add a resource section this week.
Fortunately, Ali has a resource I’m recommending. Click on her link and you’ll get to see her video. She’s lovely, so it’s enjoyable to watch her video just for that. But also notice her presentation skills. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out she has had coaching in voice-over work in addition to public speaking. Try to emulate one or two of the things she does. She’s quite good on video. Enjoy watching her, and
Enjoy the scenery On The Twisting Road! (even if you’re wearing those really dark temporary shades)

“ ‘7 Essential Reasons’ and 5 Steps (More Or Less)
A couple of weeks ago I was listening to a recording of a group call I had missed. The members were discussing what approaches to take to keep their clients and find new ones during the economic downturn. It got me thinking a lot so I brought it up when I was on a group coaching call later. I got so enthusiastic I wound up talking myself into believing that not only should we not worry about money problems keeping people from seeking coaching, we should see the times as a great opportunity because of the ways we help people.

BURGER BITES
The Burger Bites Series Is Designed To Bring You A Taste Of Coaching.
Each of us who has ever tried to make important changes has probably tried different kinds of visual reminders. We circle a family event to be sure we remember to leave work on time so we don’t miss out. We want to start a habit of regular meditation or prayer so we pick a time and leave a reminder note on the mirror. We want to use just fifteen minutes of evening time for a little extra physical activity, so we put the dog’s leash on the coat rack by the door to remind us to get out and get moving. The reminders work for a while, and then we easily overlook them. When we do notice them, they become symbols of failure, stirring up guilt and frustration with ourselves. It seems like they backfire too often.

FEATURED RESOURCES
We are all at different points on the path to find our calling, designing a lifestyle career, and making it real. Here are some resources that might speak to you wherever you are now and help you move forward.

About two years ago I joined the Changing Course Club. I got clear about my vision and clear about how I like to work with people. If you’re looking for direction and support, come join the Club. Click here to learn more.

You’re ready for someone with creative ideas and practical skills to help you make sense of it all. You’re ready for a creative career consultation. Outside the Job Box Creative Career Expert and Small Business Idea Consultation © Self-Study Course
When you think of ways to make a living doing something you love, do you find it easy to come up with ideas for other people but hard to figure out something for yourself? Is it fun to help other people, and surprising when they act like your ideas are something they would never come up with on their own? For some of us, the obvious answer eluded us for a long time.
Then we realized that the work we’re good at, the work we enjoy, the natural and authentic kind of work we do, is to help other people make creative plans and implement them. What a relief for me when I realized I didn’t want to DO every kind of creative business I heard about, but I wanted to participate in the creative design and work with people open to uniqueness and adventure.
Valerie Young’s Outside the Job Box Creative Career Expert and Small Business Idea Consultation © Self-Study Course is preparing me to do that work. Valerie explains her process in detail and provides ten audio recordings of consultations to pull back the curtain and show exactly how she does what she does. Hear what graduates of her program have to say in this video. Want to be them?
“How to Create Your OWN Strong Economy This Year… With Online Information Marketing.”
We all know the economy is… well, no reason to dampen everyone’s spirits!
